Former Telecom Minister A Raja's business associate Sadiq Batcha allegedly commits suicide in Chennai, police sources said. Batcha was declared 'brought dead' in a hospital, according to hospital sources.
Recently, Batcha's home and offices were raided by the CBI in connection with the 2G scam. Batcha was interrogated by the CBI in February. He was the manager of export house Green House Promoters. Raja's brother, Kaliaperumal, is one of the key investors in the company, the ex-minister's spouse is also considered to be the firm's legal advisor.
Sadiq Batcha, a businessman and a close associate of former Telecom Minister A Raja, who allegedly committed suicide today, was a suspect in the 2G spectrum case.
Top sources in CBI said Batcha, who was questioned by it four times in connection with the 2G scam, was a suspect but was cooperating in the probe.
Agency sources said they believe that Batcha was aware of several transactions related to the scam and could have been more useful during prosecution.
