The 'sleepy town' of Rajkot is set to become a hotspot. With a number of private companies queuing up invest in the region, civic authorities are taking a big leap by making Rajkot a Wi-Fi zone. |
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) will float e-tenders by the end of next month for the purpose. |
At present, only two to three buildings in the city have Wi-Fi connectivity. But the RMC wants to make it bigger, said VL Anadkat, city engineer, RMC. |
Initially, Limda Chowk and Harihar Chowk, the largest commercial areas in the city, would be covered in the first phase. |
These commercial hubs house a host of broking firms and corporate offices as well as the Rajkot Stock Exchange. These are the areas where internet usage is high. |
Apart from this, west zone and central zone offices of the municipal corporation will also be provided Wi-Fi connectivity. The towers required for the Wi-Fi system would be installed on the premises of RMC. The system would be made operational in the next two months after the tenders are floated. |
