The 'sleepy town' of Rajkot is set to become a hotspot. With a number of private companies queuing up invest in the region, civic authorities are taking a big leap by making Rajkot a Wi-Fi zone.

The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) will float e-tenders by the end of next month for the purpose.

At present, only two to three buildings in the city have Wi-Fi connectivity. But the RMC wants to make it bigger, said VL Anadkat, city engineer, RMC.

Initially, Limda Chowk and Harihar Chowk, the largest commercial areas in the city, would be covered in the first phase.

These commercial hubs house a host of broking firms and corporate offices as well as the Rajkot Stock Exchange. These are the areas where internet usage is high.

Apart from this, west zone and central zone offices of the municipal corporation will also be provided Wi-Fi connectivity. The towers required for the Wi-Fi system would be installed on the premises of RMC. The system would be made operational in the next two months after the tenders are floated.
