These dams were badly damaged in the earthquake in January 2001.
According to Y I Dhundhiya, executive engineer, Rajkot irrigation circle, there are 41 such dams in three districts under the Rajkot circle and executives from the World Bank had visited the dams for a damage survey.
Thirty-seven dams were found damaged and the Bank has sanctioned a loan of Rs 50 crore for the repair work.
The project will be implemented in accordance with the specifications and design of the World Bank. Tenders for the work have been invited from contractors.
Dhundhiya added that all formalities with respect to the tenders will be completed in 45 days and a report will be sent to the World Bank
