Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) today took exception to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioning the veracity of Satyam founder B Ramalingam Raju’s health report, saying he was not out of danger and could develop liver cirrhosis.
“The health condition of B Ramalinga Raju is precarious and there are chances of him developing liver cirrhosis,” said Ajit Kumar, professor and head of gastroenterology department at Nims. Raju was admitted to the hospital last September after he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, a liver disorder. CBI had raised doubts about the report submitted by Nims’ doctors about Raju’s health condition.
Speaking to the media, Kumar said Raju had a chronic infection earlier, but now the virus had almost disappeared. “The virus count was 10 million and it has now come down to 30,” he said, adding that Raju had developed complications. “He is still not out of danger and there are chances of him getting infection again,” Kumar added.
He said the treatment followed for managing Hepatitis C was standard. “Once liver cirrhosis sets in, it cannot be treated in total and there might be a need for a liver transplant.”
Kumar said Nims was ready for a third-party verification. “The treatment is same for all. It does not matter if he is the king or a commoner.”
