Reactions to the Sixth Pay Commission report

The Left parties slammed the proposal for rationalisation of the government workforce saying it would limit job opportunities, but welcomed the hike in salaries though it was "long overdue".

BJP

BJP demanded immediate implementation of the pay panel recommendations to provide relief to distress-hit government employees.

Congress

The Congress dismissed suggestions that the issue of Sixth Pay Commission was aimed at garnering the support of government servants ahead of elections.

Trade unions

The trade unions, especially the Left affiliated CITU and AITUC, criticised the Commission report saying it would lead to greater disparities among the government employees. "The recommendations of the commission will largely benefit the top grade officials," CITU chief M K Pandhe said.
