Central and state power regulators will meet here later this week to chalk out a plan of action on various measures outlined in the national tariff policy such as tapping of renewable energy sources.

"The forum of regulators will meet on April 20-21. The main item on the agenda is the tariff policy," said Central Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman A K Basu. Basu, who heads the forum, said the meeting is also likely to discuss ways to promote connection of captive power to grid as well as price and regulation of traded power.

As per the policy announced in January, CERC was to lay down guidelines by April 2006 for pricing of non-firm power, especially from non-conventional sources. State electricity regulatory commissions were mandated to fix a minimum percentage of power for purchase from renewable and cogeneration sources and their tariffs.

Besides, the CERC was to develop a national transmission tariff framework by April this year.
