With UPA clearly sweeping the elections both at the Centre and also in Maharashtra, state BJP today said the results were unexpected, adding that the party would do a self-introspection on the issue.

"Overall, the results are not upto our expectations. In the state, we have done well, but expected more seats," state BJP spokesperson Ganesh Hake told PTI.

"The party would respect the verdict of voters. They clearly indicated that they have given majority to Congress and nobody — neither Congress nor BJP —expected such an outcome," he said.

Asked if the party is worried over state assembly elections, due in six months, Hake said no.

"The nature of issues at national level and state level are completely different and we don't think that Lok Sabha results will have any impact on Assembly polls," he said.
