A five-point programme titled ‘Retrofitting of Existing IT Parks in Cyberabad Zone’ was launched by Telangana IT and Panchayat Raj minister KT Rama Rao here on Wednesday.

The programme is being coordinated by Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) and Indo-German Environment Partnership Cell of Deutsche Gesellschaftfur Internationale Zusammernarbeit (GIZ). Nasscom Foundation, the social development arm of National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), is a partner in this initiative.

The five-point agenda programme includes making the existing building green and barrier-free, waste management (both solid and e-waste) in industrial parks, promotion of ‘cycle-to-work’, increasing green cover in the zone and storm-water management along with rain water harvesting.

“The foundation is excited to partner TSIIC-GIZ for the e-waste management and inclusion of persons with disabilities and is looking to inculcate responsible business in the companies from the IT park. We intend to make this as an example for all the other IT parks to follow,” said Rita Soni, chief executive of Nasscom Foundation.

The foundation plans to begin its part of the project with a feasibility study to assess the current state of e-waste management and accessibility in the buildings/companies and then go on to pilot the implementation of both these programme components with select companies and developers, Soni said.
