Buoyed by the robust revenue collection, both tax and non-tax in 2010-11, the Orissa government has set an overall revenue collection target of Rs 19,000 crore in the current financial year.
Of the total revenue projection of Rs 19,000 crore, the state's own tax revenue has been targeted at Rs 13,800 crore while non-tax revenue is pegged at Rs 5,200 crore.
"Our total revenue collection in the last fiscal has been around Rs 16,000 crore and in 2011-12, we have set a revenue collection target of Rs 19,000 crore. Besides, our objective is to expedite pending court cases relating to commercial tax collection and modernize check gates”, B K Patnaik, the state Chief Secretary told media persons after a high-level review meeting on tax collection in the state.
It may be noted that the State Budget had projected a revenue collection of Rs 13,525.99 crore in 2010-11 and Rs 16,104.90 crore in 2011-12.
In the non-tax revenue segment, mining royalty has been projected at Rs 4,000 crore while forest & wildlife and irrigation (major, medium and minor projects) are set to contribute Rs 160 crore and Rs 220 crore respectively.
In the tax revenue, sales tax is tipped to the biggest revenue grosser at Rs 8,525 crore followed by state excise at Rs 1,350 crore and entry tax at Rs 1,300 crore.

Electricity duties are set to contribute Rs 550 crore while taxes on motor vehicles are pegged at Rs 870 crore. Similarly, the professional tax collection is projected at Rs 170 crore, land revenue at Rs 465 crore and that of stamps & registration at Rs 510 crore.
In 2010-11, the tentative collection of state's own tax stood at Rs 11,206.44 crore, which is a growth of 24.76 per cent over the previous fiscal. Apart from professional tax and electricity duties which have shown a negative growth, all other segments in the tax revenue segment have clocked a healthy growth.
While land revenue collection surged by 33.70 per cent to reach Rs 390.65 crore, state excise collection stood at Rs 1,094.26 crore, posting a growth of 28.88 per cent. Taxes on vehicles (Rs 730.04 crore) and entry tax collection at Rs 1,112.36 crore, clocked a growth of 26.16 per cent and 36.44 per cent respectively over 2009-10.
