A regional review meeting of Saakshar Bharat and the Right to Education Act was held here today, to discuss measures to be adopted for the implementation of the Act.
Union Secretary of School Education and Literacy Anshu Vaish said that this was the first of a series of five regional meetings and the north-east must take the lead to show the rest of the country as to how the Right to Education Act could be implemented.
"The meeting will try and find a solution within the framework of the Act which will improve quality of education, especially in the elementary section," he added.
Assam Education Commissioner and Secretary Mohd A B Yunus thanked the members of the north-eastern states of West Bengal and Orissa for participating in the meeting, and pointed out that the Act will bring about a revolution in providing free and compulsory education to children.
