Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) working president, Ranjan Prasad Yadav, yesterday said his party with its 16 Lok Sabha members would prefer to support the Congress if the United Front splits. However, at present we are part of the United Front government, he said while talking to newsmen here.
The survival of the Gujral government depends entirely on the Congress and the day Congress decides to withdraw its support the United Front government will fall, he said.Yadav, who toured 19 states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka, to strengthen the party organisation, claimed that 90 per cent of the Janata Dal workers had joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
One should not forget that RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav, had campaigned during the last Lok Sabha elections leading to Janata Dal emerging as the third largest group and helped giving two Prime Ministers to the United Front from Janata Dal, Yadav, also a Rajya Sabha member, added.
The RJD leader also said that those leaders who were out to lead the country should first tour their own areas and improve the conditions of the downtrodden.
