In a standing committee meeting held last week to sanction the budget for fiscal year 2006-2007 by Rajkot Municipal Corporation, demonstration of the high-tech charter plan to gear up in order to crack the octroi theft was displayed, as RMC decided to install remote video surveillance system at seven octroi posts across the city.

Initially, RMC is planning to install surveillance system at one octroi post, "We are of the opinion to install the first one for trial run at Kuwadva Road Octroi post, and based on the results we would be installing it on Jamnagar Road, Kalawad Road, Gondal Road, Morvi Road and Bhavnagar Road," explained Nitin Bhardwaj, RMC Standing Committee chairman and BJP counselor.

Infact surveillance system will help us boost the octroi collections as we will have a complete surveillance track record for the desired period, may it be weekly, forthnightly or monthly, he said.

On tallying this recorded clips with our records, incase if any discrepancy is traced and if collections from any particular party are due, we would get it collected the amount without any delay from them, claimed Bhardwaj.

Last week, the executives of a Rajkot based company demonstrated as to how proposed surveillance system would function at a meeting with RMC officials.

"Entire network would comprise of cameras, attached to Random Access Server and a telecom connectivity wherein Closed Circuit Video Cameras would be attached to the server. Data of every second comprising of 25 frames of captured image would be flashed on the screen, this cameras have inbuilt multi-tasking function and so they would slice the view of a single captured image or object and would facilitate view from one camera to 16 screens on the monitor," explained Shantanu Mehta, technical head of Parag Enterprise.

In turn whenever one wants to track the particular view of the image captured, it can be zoomed in on the screen.

During night, this data would be displayed in black and white mode, explained Shantanu.

Data captured from this cameras can be accessed on desktops, laptops or handheld devices using wi-fi connectivity or wired connectivity like a PSTN or ISDN line. It allows one to access and keep an eye on the to-&-fro movements of the traffic of the city, explained Shantanu.

Cell phone model supporting screen display of video streams can also access the data from the server by logging into the network using GSM connectivity and access the captured data in form of live video streams, he added.
