The government today said several road construction works under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) have been found unsatisfactory across the country.
"Nine per cent of the completed and sixteen per cent of the on-going works have been found unsatisfactory by the National Quality Monitors (NQM) on inspection of (the road construction work under) PMGSY during April, 2008 to May 2009," Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Jain Aditya told the Lok Sabha.
The NQM carried out a total of 5,565 inspections of the road construction works under PMGSY across the country from April, 2008 to May 2009 and found that 87 of the completed works and 745 of the ongoing works were unsatisfactory, Aditya said in a written reply.
Replying to another question, Aditya said, "State governments are implementing the PMGSY as such they are responsible for ensuring quality of road (construction) works under the programme."
States are regularly pursued for taking appropriate action in such cases, he added.
