Chief minster K Rosaiah urged the core group to restore allocation of 45,000 tonne rice for above poverty line families and 55,368 kilolitre kerosene. He also sought continuation of subsidy on red gram and palmolien oil and sufficient levy allocation on sugar to the state. Rosaiah was in Delhi to attended the meeting on price rise.
Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam and West Bengal chief ministers also attended the meeting.
Rosaiah said AP constituted a group of ministers to review the price situation periodically and take measures accordingly. Millers and traders in paddy, rice, pulses, edible oilseeds, oils and sugar were brought under a new licensing system. About 4,860 cases had been booked against the dealers for violating control orders issued under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
The meeting also discussed long-term policies for sustained agricultural growth for increased agricultural production and productivity. The chief minister said the state produced 20.42 million tonne foodgrains during 2008-09
The state requested the core group to announce the remunerative minimum support price (MSP) in advance, provide support to its irrigation project —Jalayagyam, and reduce the gap between farm gate prices and retail prices, an official press release said.
