Rs 1,900 crore power project in Chamoli

The Jaiprakash Power Ventures, a subsidiary of Jaiprakash Industries Ltd, is developing a hydroelectric project across the river Alaknanda in the Chamoli district of Uttaranchal, at a cost of Rs 1,900 crore.
 
Scheduled to be opened in December 2006, the Vishnuprayag hydroelectric project would have an undergr-ound power station with an installed capacity of 400 Mw, V Jain, executive vice-president of the company, said here. The project would generate 2,060 million units of power with average power generation cost of Rs 2 a unit, he said.
 
The Jaiprakash Power Ventures will develop the project on the "build, own, operate and transfer" basis.
 
Bamboo plantation: With a plantation target of 80,000 hectares, Uttaranchal is showcasing its potential as the next destination for bamboo development at the ongoing World Bamboo Expo-2004.
 
The Uttaranchal stall at the exposition is drawing a large number of investors, donors, researchers and industrialists from all over the world who appreciated the efforts of the state government in promoting bamboo and its fibre.
