Towards its objective to put in place a synchronised national grid, the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has successfully commissioned a 400 kV double circuit AC transmission line between Rourkela and Raipur.

Built at a cost of Rs. 237 crores, this 412 km long transmission line connecting the eastern region grid to the western region grid has been commissioned 11 months ahead of schedule.

With the commissioning of this AC inter-regional link, which is the ninth major project completed by PGCIL during this financial year, considerable system improvement is envisaged in eastern grid which has serious problems of uncontrolled frequency fluctuations, high frequency and high voltage situations.

This will also lead to commercial benefits to the constituents of the eastern grid.
