A fresh move by the Sangh Parivar to rake up the Ayodhya issue in the run-up to Assembly elections, to be held shortly, appears to have got a tacit endorsement of the Union government.
Sources in the government admit that the government has been making a determined attempt to transfer undisputed land around the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri mosque site to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad-controlled Rama Janmabhoomi Nyas.
The transfer of the land is expected to bring about a truce between the government and belligerent VHP and other RSS-backed organisations.
Significantly, RSS is believed to have persuaded the VHP leadership to give an undertaking in the court that the VHP will abide by the Supreme Court verdict on the disputed land.
