The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has decided to officially ask Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for an independent commission of inquiry on the probes into the Malegaon, Mecca Masjid and Ajmer Dargah blast cases. In all cases, personnel linked closely to the RSS or like-minded bodies have been indicted.
The RSS is already running a campaign on this issue, accusing investigators of falsely blaming the organisation and its members in these three cases. Senior leaders of the organisation have sought an appointment with the PM to raise their concerns and demand an independent probe in all the cases.
“There are deliberate attempts to distort, even pervert and politicise, the ongoing investigations into the bomb blast at Malegaon, Ajmer and Hyderabad. This is being done to cast false aspersions on the RSS,” said Manmohan Vaidya, a senior leader. Another RSS senior, Suresh Joshi, has written a four-page letter to the PM, asking him to personally look into the case.
Vaidya pointed to the chargesheet filed by the Maharashtra police’s anti-terrorist squad (ATS), in which evidence was found that Colonel Purohit, who usd to work in army intelligence and is an accused in the Malegaon blast case, and his close accomplice Dayanand Pandey, had planned to assassinate Mohanrao Bhagwat, the RSS chief and Indresh Kumar, a senior leader recently questioned in connection with the Ajmer blast case.
“Colonel Purohit was viciously hostile to the RSS and we fail to understand how the RSS could be bracketed with those who were planning to kill their senior leaders. We suspect deliberate political conspiracy to malign RSS and divert attention from the real accused,” added Vaidya.
Vaidya alleged that even after the Maharashtra ATS found telling evidence of a conspiracy to kill RSS leaders, the police didn’t investigate further and, instead, told the court it was unable to find any proof. “We are forced to suspect the investigation was aborted because the exposure of the plot would foil any attempt to bracket the RSS with the Malegaon bomb blast conspirators,” Vaidya said.
