Filing an RTI application and following its status just got much easier. The Karnataka Information Commission (KIC) has now automated much of the application and reporting process. Right from the receipt of of the RTI application till the case is disposed off, it is captured in the workflow system.

The official website is in place with the latest orders uploaded. This website has a comprehensive search facility to search the case details petitioner wise, respondent wise, case number wise or by address. Come January 1, 2011, the website will be in Kannada too.

The KIC has been integrated with the workflow system of the KIC. After the petition is accepted by the KIC, the petitioners shall get an SMS from the KIC in three stages:

  • After the case number is generated;
  • After the case is posted for the first hearing;
  • After the case has been disposed.

In the meanwhile, in case the petitioners ô respondents need to know the status of their case, they can send a message to 09212357123. Based on the case status, the petitionerespondent shall get an appropriate message.

In order to facilitate the SMS, the petitioners have to mention their mobile number at the time of filing the RTI application.

If the petitioner has not given his mobile number earlier, then he can search his case details by his name or address on the official website (kar.nic.in).

After getting his case number from the webwsite, he can submit the mobile number along with the case number in the prescribed format to further receive proactive SMS from the KIC, said State Information Commissioner H N Krishna.
