The Indian rupee strengthened by 10 paise to Rs 44.33 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, boosted by gains posted by other Asian currencies against the American currency overseas and a firming trend in the stock market.
The rupee had gained 5 paise to close at Rs 44.43/44 per US dollar in the previous session amid bullish equities and frenzied capital inflows.
Forex dealers said dollar losses against other Asian currencies overseas and the higher opening in the stock market mainly kept the rupee sentiment firm.
The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex moved up by 53.40 points, or 0.27%, to 19,131.70 in opening trade today.
