The Supreme Court (SC) has deferred the 2G spectrum hearing until March 11, according to the SC website.

The decision would effectively extend the validity of the quashed licences, giving the operators an option to continue their services in the circles where licences have been quashed, till the next round auction.

Incidentally, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has announced that the next round of auction will start on March 11.

The SC had in its previous order last month said that the validity of the licenses will be extended till the date of the next hearing. It had then proposed February 4 as the next date for hearing on the case.

The SC had sought additional details from the government on the previous round of auction. It was also expected to take a view on the further grant of extension of licenses to companies including Sistema Shyam, Videocon and Telenor.
