Chhattisgarh has received about 22 per cent less rainfall till the first fortnight of crucial sowing month of July. Though it is not alarming, but the uneven distribution of rainfall has severely affected sowing operation in the state.

"The rainfall that the state has received so far is about 22 per cent less than the normal rains," Deputy Director in the state's directorate of agriculture RK Chandravanshi said. As against 352.7 millimeters (mm), the state has received 281.9 mm of rains till now, he added.

The average rainfall of Chhattisgarh is 1334.2 mm. The northern part of the state has been severely hit as Sarguja division has not even received 40 per cent of the rainfall. In Raipur district, about 33 per cent deficient rains had been recorded.

Though agriculture department officials claimed that sowing work had started in the state, agriculture scientists said that the distribution of rainfall had not been proper.
