The 92nd Indian Science Congress, which will be held in Ahmedabad from January 3 to 7, 2005, will provide a boost to medical tourism in Gujarat, said chief minister Narendra Modi, in Ahmedabad. |
Modi (below) said this while inaugurating the website of the 92nd Indian Science Congress at Nirma University on Friday evening. |

"The forthcoming 92nd Indian Science Congress will create a scientific temper in Gujarat and will attract the new generation towards science. Gujarat is fast emerging as a major centre for medical tourism and this event should further boost medical tourism in the state," Modi said. |

Nirma University of Science and Technology and National Institute of Occupational Health will host the five-day event, which by tradition is inaugurated by the Prime minister. |

The President of India has been attending the ISC for the past three years. This annual meet brings together scientists, science administrators, policy makers and academicians who discuss issues that have scientific and technological implications. |

H V Trivedi, director of Nirma Institute of Technology felt that with the ISC being organised in Gujarat, research and academic work being done in the state will get special emphasis. |

H N Saiyed, director of National Institute of Occupational Health stated that the forthcoming will focus on multi disciplinary issues like drug discoveries, health economics, traditional medicine, biotechnology, ethics, clean energy, bio-terrorism and the like. |

Gujarat will use the platform of the ISC to showcase its policy measures taken on biotechnology and other areas, where it seeks investment. The ISC will also be used by the government to promote its medical tourism venture. |
