The Orissa government has decided to set up a new renewable energy park at Nawarangpur.
The Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA), the nodal agency of the Orissa government for promotion of new and renewable energy, has prepared the detailed project report (DPR) for it.
The proposal would be sent to the ministry of new and renewable energy sources (MNRE) for funding, Ramesh Chandra Majhi, minister, science and technology department, told the media persons.
The proposed venture would be in line with the Biju Patnaik Renewable Energy Park set up at Khandagiri and would showcase various aspects of renewable energy generation and use.
The project cost is estimated at Rs 1 crore and the state government would provide 2-3 acres of land and related infrastructure for the park.
The minister said, OREDA is preparing a DPR for energising the gardens of the secretariat, state assembly and Raj Bhawan and secretariat corridor. Solar panels are proposed to be mounted on the rooftop of the secretariat building.

This would be a pilot project and depending on the success the project would be replicated in tourist and other important public places.
It may be noted, the State Technical Committee (STC), headed by the secretary in the science and technology department, has already cleared solar power projects with an aggregate generation capacity of 351 Mw. Besides, to tap the potential in the wind sector which is put at 800 Mw, wind resources assessment survey has started in 22 locations of the state including Chandbali, Puri, Chhatrapur, Nawarangpur, Damanjodi among others.
The Centre for Wind Energy Technology (Chennai), a Gove3 nment of India (GoI) organisation, Suzlon and Epuron have been entrusted with the task.
