Security creates fortress-like ambience

From the time he disembarked at the Ahmedabad airport in a private jet at around 2.45 pm on Saturday to attend the first convocation ceremony of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, the company left no stone unturned in keeping Reliance Industries chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani away from public glare.

Driven straight from the tarmac of the airport to DA-IICT, Gandhinagar, Mukesh straight-away chaired a meeting of the board of governors of the institution before being escorted to the convocation venue.

After the convocation, he was escorted to a hall before being led to a car parked nearby that headed straight for the airport. Security personnel were even seen arguing with lensmen during the meeting of board of governors of DA-IICT.

Telecommunications guru Sam Pitroda, who also attended the convocation function, landed in Ahmedabad a few minutes before Mukesh arrived.

However, within minutes of Mukesh's arrival at the airport, chief minister Narendra Modi, and a group of industrialists left for Australia to invite prospective investors ahead of the Global Investors' Summit that is being organised in January.

The only government representative at the meeting was J N Singh, secretary, science and technology of the Gujarat government.

The picturesque DA-IICT campus was turned into a fortress to ensure that Mukesh was kept away from public glare.
