Around 20 to 25 activists of the Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) and some passers-by were injured in the clashes that broke out in the Shivaji Park area of Dadar after the issue of tearing of posters of parties in a college angered the activists from both the sides. |
According to police sources, "dispute broke out between MNS and Sena activists in the evening over the tearing of each other's posters in the SIES college at Dadar, resulting in stone pelting on their party headquarters." |
The shops, cars parked on the road and pedestrians had to bear the brunt of the activists' ire. The police had to divert the traffic coming towards the area. |
The Rapid Action Force (RAF), anti-riot squad of Mumbai police and state reserve police force personnel were quickly rushed to the spot. The police had to resort to bursting of teargas shells and lathicharge to disburse both the parties' activists. |
A slogan war ensued after MNS President Raj Thackeray and Sena's working president Uddhav Thackeray reached their respective party headquarters which are just stone's throw away from each other. |
However, after police requested both the leaders, they left their respective party headquarters after addressing their party workers in which they appealed them to maintain calm, but didn't forget to tell them that "don't hesitate to retaliate if provoked." |
