Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Mallikarjuna M Kharge told reporters on Wednesday that the senior party leaders will work out a strategy to effectively counter the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) in the three-phase assembly elections in the state during May. |

While the BJP is banking on the sympathy factor after the JD(S) dumped the one-week-old BJP government led by B S Yeddyurappa last year, the Congress is keen on securing an absolute majority. The Congress leaders are of the opinion that people of the state will look for a stable government and therefore vote for a single party. |
"During the last four years, there were three coalition governments in Karnataka. We want to put an end to the coalition era by securing a majority to ensure comprehensive development of the state. The poll strategy will be aimed at achieving this objective," Kharge added. |
He pointed out that the three leaders will hold meetings with another senior party worker Prithviraj Chavan, who is in charge of the state assembly polls. |
"The poll strategy is also aimed at wooing all sections of voters by highlighting the development projects and welfare schemes initiated by the UPA government," Kharge said. |
All the three Congress leaders will shortly visit the state to work out the strategy. The Congress has been rushing its national leaders to the state. Recently senior leader Jagadish Tytler was in the state. Sometime back, Congress sent its general secretary Rahul Gandhi to woo the youngsters to the party. |
The JD(S), according to sources, is working out ways to secure victory in at least 30 to 40 assembly segments. In the last assembly election, the party had emerged victorious in 58 assembly segments surprising everyone. |
Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and JD(S) supremo, who is unlikely to produce the same performance in the ensuing polls, is looking at 30-40 seats. |
The JD(S) leaders believe that the election will produce another fractured verdict giving the party a chance to take part in the government. |
