SEZ, export zone being set up in Uttaranchal

Besides this, Uttaranchal was giving a thrust to the expansion of various airports, rail lines and road networks, Tiwari told a high-level delegation of the CII, which called on him during the weekend.
 
According to an official release, Tiwari stressed the need for setting up a task force to oversee various developmental works currently under progress in the state.
 
The CII delegation was headed by Adesh Gupta, chairman, CII Northern Region, and CEO, Liberty Shoes; Lovelena Mody, chairperson, Uttaranchal State Council, along with captains of industry were also present in the meeting.
 
The delegation focused on key issues of infrastructure, connectivity, FDI in Uttaranchal, enhancing employability, internal competitiveness of the industries and development of agriculture.
 
Emphasising limited land availability in Uttaranchal, Tiwari said it was essential to look at agro-based and other industries suitable for the hill areas of the state. He suggested the constitution of an area-specific task force to work out developmental plans based on specific requirements and potential of respective regions within the state.
 
PWD Minister Indira Hridayesh, who was present in the meeting, called for tapping the growing potential of the agriculture sector in the state.
 
Explaining the theme "Nirman" of the CII for 2006-07, Gupta emphasised regional/state competitiveness, creating opportunities for business development, agriculture and industrial competitiveness, development of human resources, etc.
