Violence again flared up at Nandigram today, the site of violent protests over the proposed acquisition of land for a special economic zone (SEZ) by Indonesia's Salim Group, as bombs were hurled, gunshots fired and people beaten up.Since last night, bombs were being hurled from Khejuri towards Nandigram and gunshots were heard in Kedorabarchak area, a PTI correspondent said.Sporadic clashes have occurred since Friday night at Nandigram between supporters of the Communist Party of India, Marxists (CPI-M) and the Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee (BUPC), which is spearheading the protest against Salim Group's land acquisition.Satyen Karan, a resident of Dangra locality, was beaten up when he went to Tekhali Bazar yesterday and found his shop being looted.Karan, who filed a complaint with the police, was admitted to a primary health centre at Nandigram.Amalendu Maity, who was injured by armed persons yesterday, was released after first-aid. He also informed police about the attack.Houses were set ablaze, shops were looted and some people were reported missing from the area yesterday.BUPC members alleged that a mob of 200 to 300 CPI-M supporters set ablaze four houses, including a bakery at Tekhali Bazar village, where jewellery and garment shops were looted.BUPC today organised a procession in Tekhali Bazar to protest the looting of shops and damage to property yesterday.Sheikh Sufiyan, convenor, BUPC vowed that the body would resist attempts by the CPI-M to foment trouble in the area.Update at 1512 hrs on Saturday: The trouble-torn Nandigram block-I in West Bengal's East Midnapore district witnessed fresh violence today as many houses were set ablaze by mobs."There were reports of clashes at Nandigram since last night and this morning. Some houses were set on fire there," IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told PTI in Kolkata.Nandigram has been witnessing sporadic clashes between supporters of the CPI-M and the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee, which is spearheading the agitation against land acquisition for an SEZ there.Members of the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee, told a PTI correspondent who visited the troubled areas of Tekhali bazar, Gokulnagar, Jalpai and Kalicharanpur of Nandigram block-I that three of their members were kidnapped by CPI-M workers and were missing.The missing villagers were identified as Amal Maity of Gokulnagar village, Rangan Das of Kalicharanpur village and Sankar Sihi of Jalpai village.The IGP, however, said he did not have any report of anyone missing in Nandigram.The members alleged a mob of 200-300 people also set ablaze four houses, including the bakery run by Maity at Tekhali Bazar village, and jewellery and garment shops were looted.Last night, bombs were hurled at Talpatti and Bhangabera, and planks thrown on dug up roads to facilitate traffic were removed to deny entry to the villages.
