Shell-Hazira Gas Private Ltd has sponsored 20 diploma engineers from eight villages in Hazira for a one-year Post -Diploma in Foremanship Course at the Foreman Training Institute (FTI) in Bangalore. |
The programme has been designed in collaboration with the local community, leadership and administrator and focuses on education, skill building, and health. |

The sponsorships were awarded to the engineers at a function organised at the Ayojan Bhavan at Surat. The district collector and the district magistrate Pankaj Joshi along with Dhansukhbhai Patel, MLA, Olpad, in Hazira, the sarpanches of eight villages of Hazira were present at the function. |

The collector also handed over the cheques amounting to Rs 8 lakh for the first phase of the programme identified under a sustainable development programme (SDP) in four villages, including the revival of ponds, solar street lights, dispensary and English classes at Hazira village, dispensary and road reconstruction at Junagam, waste disposal and ponds at Mora and revival of ponds at Suvali. |

This is in addition to the Rs 10 lakh provided to the Hazira Village Development Association in the past six months for dispensary management, organisation of health and education camps and for setting up household waste collection and disposal system. |

The 20 diploma engineers were selected from 43 applicants by senior representatives of FTI. |

The programme covers academic fees, academic material, hostel and travel expenses. The successful candidates will receive a stipend of Rs 4,000 per month during the training. |
