The Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind have appealed for peace, tranquility and social hormony after the Ayodhya judgment is delivered on September 24.

Maharashtra Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind is a leading religious body with a mass following in the state. Both parties recalled the horrifying experience of the communal riots in Mumbai following the demolition of the Babri mosque on December 6, 1992.

Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said his party has faith in the judiciary and would accept the verdict. He called for peace ahead of the crucial judgment.

However, a Sena leader told Business Standard: “If there is any action there will be reaction. All Shiv Sena shakhas have been asked to keep alert and maintain harmony.”

On the other hand, Maulana Mustkima Azmi, president of Maharashtra Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, appealed to Muslims and Hindus not to fall prey to provocative tactics of certain elements.
