Sindhushree Khullar likely CEO of NITI Aayog

Was member-secretary of the erstwhile Planning Commission

Former Planning Commission member-secretary Sindhushree Khullar is likely to be appointed chief executive officer of the newly formed NITI Aayog.

A 1975-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service’s Union Territories cadre, she had retired in March 2013 and was member-secretary of the erstwhile Commission on extension.

The prime minister has already appointed economist Arvind Panagariya the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog. Bibek Debroy and V K Saraswat were made full-time members of the body. As chairman of the Aayog, the PM also appointed ex-officio members and special invitees to the new body. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu and Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh were made ex-officio members.

Roads and shipping minister Nitin Gadkari, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot are special invitees. The governing council of the Aayog would include chief ministers and lieutenant-governors.
