Singapore Airlines expects 30 per cent growth in passenger traffic from Punjab in 2006-07 and will focus on tourists and leisure travellers in the state.

"We are expecting a 30 per cent growth in passenger traffic from Punjab during this fiscal while primarily targeting leisure and tourist traffic," Singapore Airlines Manager (Punjab) Vimal Rai said.

To capitalise on the state's growing tourist traffic, Singapore Airlines has tied up with Singapore Tourism Board and Malaysia tourism board to offer special packages for passengers.

The airlines will also target visiting friends and relatives passenger segment to countries such as the US, Canada and Manila.

"The huge number of people from Punjab who visit other countries to meet friends and relatives also offers a huge potential for us," said Rai.

Singapore Airlines operates 3 flights from Amritsar every week with a capacity of 323 seats per flight and maintains a load factor between 60 to 80 per cent.
