Six arrested for supply of illicit liquor in state

While three main suppliers of the killer brew, Syed Asghar, Syed Kadir and Imtiaz, all natives of Bailanarasapura, the place where the brew was manufactured, were arrested in Kolar district today, three vendors of the brew were arrested in Bangalore Rural district yesterday, police said.

With this the total number of those arrested for supply of illicit liquor has gone up to 22.

Ramesh Muniswamy, Sardar and Yellappa, all natives of Adigarakallahalli village in Bangalore Rural district, were nabbed by the police yesterday.

Police said, besides Bailanarasapura, Adigarakallahalli and Arahalli are the other villages where illicit brew was manufactured by "the local villagers themselves, making it their livelihood". Sixteen persons were arrested in Anekal and the city earlier in connection with the supply of the killer brew.

The illicit liquor has claimed 133 lives in Karnataka and 41 in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. Police said Sounder Rajan, his wife Satya and daughter- in-law Rekha were arrested near Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. Rajan's main job was to procure illicit liquor from his sources and the responsibility of vending was left to his wife and daughter-in-law,they said.
