The world’s two largest democracies, India and the US, should work together to face an assertive China, a US-India business forum has said. The development followed the introduction of a legislation in the US Congress yesterday to ban purchase of Chinese products with tax payers’ money.

At a function organised by the US India Business Council (USIBC) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci), president of USIBC Ron Somers asked the US and India to work in partnership.

“As we watch this new assertiveness, new Chinese muscularity, it’s time that the United States and India come closer as partners than ever before because it’s worth it,” he said.

FICCI President Rajan Bharti Mittal said India deserved a better partnership status as it had proved itself to be a responsible and mature country, and unlike China, never misused the imported technology.
