AICC President Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the 29th National Plenary Conference of the INTUC, scheduled to be held here from October 9 to 12.
Addressing the INTUC State Committee meeting here, INTUC national president G Sanjeeva Reddy, said Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the conference on October 10.
The working committee of the INTUC would be held on October 9 while the federation meeting, delegates session and women members meeting would be held on the next two days, he added.
About 5000 delegates, including from Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Italy, USA and Japan, are expected to attend the conference being held for the first time in Kerala, he said.
Reddy alleged that thousands of industries are being closed in West Bengal where the CPI(M) government is in power, while in BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh, workers have lost their livelihood due to closure of thousands of factories.
The main objective of the conference was to strengthen Congress in Kerala and to mobilise all workers under the banner of INTUC, he added and urged them to work and ensure that the party returns to power in the next election.

Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, meanwhile alleged that the LDF government had not done anything for the welfare of the workers.
"When the UDF was in power, they had given free rations to the people and tuition fees to students when plantation units were closed. The LDF government was not paying any attention in the workers welfare."
