The court had directed the Election Commission to accept the nomination papers of the rejected candidate. The court order had necessitated the postponement of the election in the four districts of Mysore.

Elections for the remaining three Council seats, however, took place as scheduled on June 21. They are: Karnataka North-West Graduates’ constituency, Karnataka North-West Teachers’ constituency and Karnataka West Teachers’ constituency.

The Election Commission of India had subsequently challenged the single bench judge’s order in the court maintaining that the court had no powers to stop an election process once it was set in motion. BJP candidate contesting from the constituency G Madhusudhan had also filed an appeal in the high court, challenging the order. The single bench reversed its earlier order and rejected the petition of the Independent candidate.
