A string of specialised stores that sell medical and healthcare products has come up in different parts of the state and many more are expected to start functioning in the near future.
While Planet Health, a division of Sagar Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (SDPL), already has five stores in place and is embarking on a major expansion drive, Apollo Hospital has opened its first medical store in Ahmedabad.
Leading herbal healthcare company Himalaya Drug Company too has opened its store in the city.
These stores offer personalised attention to customers, who actually enjoy a shopping experience which is not available in conventional medical stores.
The outlets also claim to provide medicines stored under the right conditions. Added features are provision of health cards, round-the-clock service and home delivery.
Leading the pack is Ahmedabad-based Planet Health.
The company opened its first such shop in Ahmedabad in December 2001. Now the company has five stores in Ahmedabad and plans to set up ten more shops in all major cities of Gujarat by the next year.
