The Railway Budget for 2012-13 provides for a Plan size of Rs 60,100 crore. Of this, railway minister Dinesh Trivedi plans to spend Rs 30,045.50 crore on new lines, doubling, gauge conversion and for acquisition of rolling stock. In Mamata Banerjee’s speech last year, she promised construction of 700 km of rail lines, whereas Trivedi mentioned he would target 725 km this year.
