Even as rice millers in Haryana seem to have ended the stalemate with government agencies on levying of holding charges, the millers maintain few issues remain unresolved.
Haryana Pradesh Rice Millers & Dealers Association President Azad Singh Rathee said with the issue regarding levying of holding charges on millers settled, it should pave way for the smooth procurement of paddy by millers in Haryana. However the millers are still concerned over issues for which they are seeking early settlement.
Rathee said that millers are demanding that rice once dispatched from millers to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) should absolve them of their responsibility. Rice millers in Haryana purchase paddy on behalf of government agencies and after milling them, the rice is supplied to FCI.
Rathee maintained that millers also want that holding charges should not be levied on millers till June; however the government has accepted April as the final deadline.
Earlier rice millers in Haryana had refused to lift paddy from terminal markets. With the stalemate between rice millers in Haryana and state government agencies finally ending, paddy procurement in Haryana is expected to gain some traction in the coming time.
Arrival of 124,959 metric tonnes of paddy across various terminal markets in Haryana has been reported till yesterday.
