Gujarat, which remains power surplus all through the year, has earned Rs 745 crore from sale of power as on July 2011-12. Gujarat government sold around 2053.19 million units to various states at an average price of Rs 3.63 per unit.
As per the data provided by the state government, its earnings from the sale of power in the fiscal 2010-11 stood at Rs 1628 crore as compared to Rs 938 crore earned in 2009-10.
The Gujarat government sold 4191.48 million units at an average rate of Rs 3.88 per unit in 2010-11 and 1747.63 million units in 2009-10.
States such as Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have so far purchased power from Gujarat. The state government also sold 656.95 million units and 359.61 million units through Indian Energy Exchange and Power Exchange of India.
The state government has so far procured 17,493 million units of power from various sources which include state-run power plants, state's share in the power generated by Central power utilities' plants located in Gujarat and renewable energy sources, especially wind power. Around 46,335 million units were procured in the fiscal 2010-11.
