The 13th Finance Commission has recommended a grant of Rs 9,658.76 crore in favour of the state. The said amount is to be utilized under heads like grants for local bodies, elementary education, public sector, ware sector, grants for improving outcomes, grants for specific needs and disaster relief against which Rs 1,374.09 crore has been budgeted for 2011-12.
In the commission's recommendations, Rs 350 crore has been suggested for upgradation of health infrastructure, Rs 60 crore for establishment of market yards, Rs 1,022 crore for maintenance of roads and bridges, Rs 30 crore for improvement of statistical system, Rs 3,270.90 crore for urban local bodies and panchayati raj institutions Rs 178.50 crore as incentive for issuing Unique Identity Cards (UID), Rs 30 crore for District Innovation Fund and Rs 65 crore for preservation of monuments and Buddhist heritage.
It has also been decided to create an innovative fund in each district for increasing efficiency of capital assets already created through different schemes and projects.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the High Level Monitoring Committee chaired by the state Chief Secretary B K Patnaik.
