In its continued efforts to weed out bogus ration cards, Karnataka Government will be introducing te system of submission of applications for new cards “on-line” from tomorrow.
Those who do not have ration cards in urban areas can apply through “online” and in rural areas it can be submitted “on-line” through panchayat offices, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Shobha Karandlaje told reporters here on Friday.
The card aspirants living in the urban areas can visit the department’s website https://bsmedia.business-standard.comahara.kar.nic.in to submit their applications and those who find it difficult can visit the offices concerned of the department and avail the facilities by paying a fee of Rs 10, she said.
But, all application registration will have to be done on-line, she said.
Karnataka is said to have 16.7 million ration cards and of them at least 3 million are believed to be bogus, she said.
All the bogus cards would be cancelled, she said. In order to identify ineligible ration cards in urban areas, the cards have been linked to electricity meter RR numbers of the houses in which beneficiaries reside.
In rural areas, the gove-rnment is making use of computer database of the panchayats and the cards have been linked to property tax numbers of the houses, she said.
