The Karnataka government plans to establish a feeder to ensure regular electricity to industries located in industrial areas, Minister for Medium and Large Industries Murugesh R Nirani said today.
In reply to U T Khader (Congress) during question hour in the Legislative Assembly, Nirani said before holding the Global Investors' Meet (GIM) last year, the government had signed agreements with various companies, including National Thermal Power Corporation, for generating 18,000 Mw. The government is committed to provide round-the-clock power to new industries that come up in the State, he said.
The Government had signed MoUs for 389 projects with an envisaged investment of Rs 3.92 lakh crore during the GIM held in June last year. So far, 14 projects have been implemented providing employment to 3,984 persons and 201 projects are at different stages of implementation with potential to generate jobs for 348,872 persons.
Nirani said the government would withdraw the land allotted to industries if they failed to set up projects within two years after getting clearance. Industries would not be allowed to use allotted lands for real estate purposes, he said. Earlier, T B Jayachandra (Congress) alleged that the industrial corridors have become real estate corridors and no major project signed during the GIM had been realised.
