The West Bengal government should play the role of a facilitator and leave land acquisition to the buyers and sellers, said D S Rawat, secretary general, Assocham. The Assocham team—in the city to host a summit on investment opportunities in West Bengal—will be meeting chief minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

Rawat said, the chamber would advise the state government to steer clear from acquiring land for industry. Assocham has also submitted its recommendations along the same lines to the Centre. Assocham, which has made West Bengal a focal point for five years, feels that the state needs to adopt a focused approach and measured step to improve and integrate strategy for harnessing the full potential of the state by inviting investments, assuring investors that clearances for their projects would be timely.

Rawat said, “We will tell the chief minister that investors from outside West Bengal believe in the state leadership. This year we will get national and international investors to the state,” he said.
