State to promote rural tourism: Dinesh Dakua

 Dakua said that to start with the state government had started special promotion for Bishnupur, the temple town, with financial aid from the central government.

 He further added that another village, Ballabpur near Shantiniketan was also being promoted. Work has already begun in Ballabpur.

 Though the state government was developing these villages they would be kept in their original form to preserve their charm.

 Dakua said the government will only make the villages communicable and hospitable without tampering the scenic beauty of the village.

 There were also plans of promoting forest tourism. In this connection Dakua especially mentioned Dooars.

 He said that Dooars had been witnessing a high inflow of travellers. He said, many people from the northern part of the country were visiting Dooars.

 Dakua was addressing a press conference to announce Tourism Festival 2003. The West Bengal Tourism Fair 2003 would be a four-day mega event.

 The objective was not be another trade fair but, would highlight tourist destinations and travels, directly and indirectly through food, music, dance, art and culture.

 There would be a carnival of performers
