The state steel & mines department will review the pending cases of Renewal of Mining Leases (RML) in the state on Friday.
A special cell has been constituted within the department for disposal of RML applications.
The decision to form the RML cell has been prompted by the huge volume of pending cases and the inordinate delay in disposal of such cases.
The cell is monitoring the disposal and processing of cases by the concerned officers of the department. Besides, the cell is coordinating with the office of the Mines Directorate.
It was decided at a recent meeting that the additional secretaries of the Mineral Concessions (MC-I) section under the steel & mines department shall take up hearing of at least 10-12 cases per month.
On the other hand, the additional secretary in charge of MC-II section shall take up hearing of 20 cases per month.

The department secretary had earlier instructed that all-out efforts should be made to expedite disposal of pending RML cases in a time-bound manner.
While disposing RML cases, leases which are working on 'deemed extension' should be taken up on a priority basis. Leases where the mine is for captive purposes should also be taken up immediately.
It may be noted that as many as 310 applicants were in the fray for renewal of their mining leases of which the department claimed to have disposed off around 30 cases.
RML cases in the state were temporarily put on hold as a six-member committee headed by Director (Mines) was constituted to look into the cases of miners raising ores beyond the IBM (Indian Bureau of Mines) approved Mining Plan.
According to the report submitted by the committee in September last year, there were 107 miners lifting ores beyond the approved 'Mining Plan' of IBM. The state government is currently examining the report of the committee.
