Food and Supplies Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday announced that the states and union territories have been given three months to implement the National Food Security Act.
"The Food Security Act is made for the poor people and the subsidy will be increased for three months, although, Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter for increasing it for six months. We want the Food Security Act to be followed all over the country," said Paswan.
Passed in September 2013, the Act gives access to highly subsidised foodgrains to two-thirds of the country's population. The ordinance was issued in July 2013.
