"Instead of talking of big projects on World Women's Day, small projects should be taken up to make the day-to-day lives of women happier. This will help spread happiness among families and the society would become more content," said Justice Sunga Bhatt of the Gujarat High Court.

She was addressing a seminar on 'Issues, Opportunities and Challenges before the New Age Women' on the occasion of World Women's Day on Monday in Ahmedabad.

The meet was organised by the ladies wing of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

"In today's fast life, the responsibilities of women have increased manifold and it is no longer easy for them to take adequate care of all members of the family," Bhatt said.

Television actress Smriti Irani said: "The condition of women in society is a reflection of the character of men". She added that she was proud for all women achievers in various fields.

Noted writer and artist Esther David urged women to work for the poor and exploited women.

"Women and girls are subjected to injustice in rural areas and women must prepare themselves for a continuous struggle in life," she said.

Culinary expert Tarla Dalal appealed to women to learn to cook various kinds of items depending on the tastes of family members.

"The food industry has become a very big business and women can earn a lot of money in this area. In the fast life of big cities, women complain of getting tired. They should find a remedy for this and stay healthy," she urged.

Vidya Shah, chairperson of the ladies wing of GCCI, in her welcome address, said: "Women represent a combination of wisdom, organising capacity, morality, affection and nobility."

Five women who have made distinguished contributions in various fields were also honoured at the function.
