Tata group chairman Ratan Tata on Friday inaugurated a super specialty cancer center in Anand. |
The hospital, which is founded by Shree Krishna Hospital, will be managed by Charutar Arogya Mandal in Karamsad. |
The inaugural function also coincided with the 100th birth anniversary of late H M Patel, former finance and home minister of India. |
The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Manibhai and Brothers Charitable Trust of Ahmedabad have pumped in the hospital's cost of Rs 7.50 crore. |
"It is the responsibility of corporate houses to support the society through enhancing health-related facilities. Today it is important to have more cancer-detection centres. Early detection of the disease can save the number of precious lives," said Tata. |
Chairperson of the National Dairy Development Board Amrita Patel stressed on the role of corporate bodies in the social health and education programmes. |
"Essential services in the social sector such as health and education should see more involvement of business houses given that adequate government funding is not likely to come in the long run," she said. |
Patel hoped that many more industrial houses would come forward to work at grass root levels. |
The five-hundred bed hospital will provide diagnosis to facilities such as chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy. |
"The Tatas would be pleased to support any social cause in the state. Our family has deep roots in this state starting from the birth of Jamshedji Tata in Navsari," said Tata. |
Tata also visited National Dairy Development Board in Anand, where he was briefed on various activities being carried out by the board. |
He visited the Project Engineering Division of the board. At the research and development centre, Tata was briefed on the breeding, nutrition and health services being provided by NDDB, along with research undertaken in the area of buffalo genomics, animal vaccine and diagnostics. |
